Has Your Home Been Tested
By a House Doctor?

Are you receiving the savings that you expect from your high efficient heating and cooling system? Even the most efficient equipment on the market can seem to fall well short of the savings one would expect in a home. In the past we’ve blamed the equipment manufacturer or say there are problems in the home beyond our control. Are they? Unrealized savings, uncomfortable rooms, air cleaners that don’t seem to work, are all symptoms of problems directly related to the home.

Is it possible to provide solutions to these problems? Yes, by having a visit from one of Crystal Valley’s “House Doctors”. What does a house doctor do? First they will sit down with you and discuss some of the factors you do not like about your home. This may include:

  • Hot or cold rooms.
  • Mold or mildew problems.
  • Humidity problems.
  • High utility bills.

  • They will then describe the test that will be preformed on your home. The test is called an infiltrometer test or “blower door” test. It consists of installing a panel into your front door opening. (see picture above) The panel is installed very quickly and without harm to your door opening. The panel has a blower fan installed in it which creates a positive or negative pressure inside your home. This panel is then connected to a computer and instruments which measure pressures and infiltration rates. Then with a smoke pencil, they will show you where your problem areas are. The great news is that the remedies for the problems are very economically solved. Because the problems are mostly from leaks or infiltration, the solutions are simple. Find-a-hole...Fix-a-hole.

The results of having this test preformed, and some minimal expense on repairs, has created some drastic differences for some of our customers. For some it will mean a savings over $200.00 during the winter months on utility bills. For others it has meant that they do not have water dripping down their windows. For others it has simply solved the problem of the “cold bedroom”. The test takes about 1-2 hours. We encourage you to be there when we perform the test. The response from people who have had the test have been nothing but positive. It is a very interesting procedure and never fails to amaze people when they actually see where leaks are coming from in the home.

Please contact us to inquire about the infiltrometer and what it could do for you, and your home!
